10 Do-It-Now Usability Tips For Your Web Site

1. Provide clear browser window titles for easy bookmarking.

2. Place the site's logo in the upper left corner of all pages. It should link back to the homepage.

3. Use only one color for hypertext links and use it consistently.

4. Use a consistent font for all the body copy (sans-serif recommended).

5. Warn people before a link takes them off site.

6. Indicate when links lead to a PDF or downloadable file; display the file size.

7. Add ALT tags to all images, which provide alternate descriptive text to viewers who can't see the graphics.

8. List contact information in the footer on all pages.

9. Write and post a privacy policy, if collecting personal information from users.

10. Add time stamps on frequently updated material.
